Wallenius vessels in lay-up

NEWS

Based on the present market conditions and the need to adjust fleet capacity to current transportation demand, Wallenius vessels will be laid up in Europe and in Asia.

Two vessels, m/v TOBA and m/v TAPIOLA, have been laid up in Lyngdal, Norway. The vessels are owned 50/50 by Wilh.Wilhelmsen and Wallenius Lines and on charter to the joint venture Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics. Four other vessels owned by Wallenius Lines will be laid up in Asia.

Due to the global recession, automotive sales has declined rapidly. The current global demand for ocean transportation of cars and RoRo cargo has been reduced. A number of measures to meet the new market conditions have been carried out. These include among others redelivery of chartered vessels, idling and lay up of vessels.

Given the market situation, more vessels are likely to be laid up.
