Wallenius works on upstream solutions, which means we try to control the sources of waste rather than treating them afterwards. We have been working according to this philosophy since the 1990s.
In practice, this means that we want our vessels to use fuel which is as clean as possible, only use environmentally-friendly oils and lubricants, reduce nitrogen emissions by lowering combustion chamber temperature, use tin-free bottom paint and optimise ship operations. We use the world’s only IMO-approved system for ballast-water cleaning, PureBallast, which we developed together with Alfa Laval.
