ZERO emission project
Wallenius Marine have a road map to eliminate emissions from shipping. The roadmap is focusing on energy consumption, energy carriers and emissions to the atmosphere. It shows that it is already possible to build completely emission free vessels with today’s technology. However, there are other challenges that must be met.
Here are some conclusions from the ZERO emission project:
- We must change our way of operating the ships. It can be sailing in a lower speed, optimize our routes to get the best wind and the most sun etc.
- We will implement new technology in a number of areas and will need a new kind of competence.
- Our current ship design requirements and constraints are being reviewed, for example speed and limitations on size.
We are continuously evaluating new technology and R&D of interest for the emission free vessels. At the same time, we are developing concepts in order to demonstrate the feasibility of new technology and ideas.
