Students and trainees

Building the Future of Maritime Careers. The future of shipping is shaped by people. At Wallenius Marine, we work actively to develop the skills and experience needed for tomorrow’s maritime industry – at sea and ashore. That’s why we take part in several initiatives that help open doors to the industry.

Cadets – Start your maritime career at sea

Every year, we welcome around 100 cadets from Swedish maritime education programmes. As a cadet on board our vessels, you gain hands-on experience, professional guidance and a clear path into working life. For many, this is the first step towards a long-term career with Wallenius Marine, and a large number of our former cadets return to us for permanent positions in officer and technical roles.

How to apply:
Cadet positions are offered on a continuous basis in close cooperation with maritime schools. Available placements are announced and assigned through the respective maritime schools.

Students – Learn through real projects

We collaborate closely with maritime upper secondary schools and universities in Sweden. For students, we offer:

  •  Summer jobs in cooperation with Lighthouse
  • Bachelor and master thesis opportunities connected to real projects

This allows you to apply your knowledge to real challenges in shipping, ship operations and development.

How to apply:
Summer job opportunities are offered in selected periods, often in cooperation with Lighthouse. Information about upcoming opportunities will be published here.

Graduates – A springboard into the industry

 Ship Design and Innovation

For graduates with a Master’s degree in Naval Architecture or other relevant technical fields in Sweden, such as Systems, Control and Mechatronics, Electric Power Engineering, Applied Mechanics or similar disciplines, we offer the opportunity to join our team through our trainee programme. The programme offers a unique start to your career in shipping and combines practical experience on board our vessels, shore-based projects connected to real development work, and close collaboration with our teams working with ship design, innovation and sustainability. The programme runs for 12 months, with rotations between several different companies.

How to apply:
Applications open every year from December to February. Trainee positions are offered in cooperation with Lighthouse.

Maritime Law

The trainee program for young maritime lawyers, launched in 2024 by The Swedish Club, Svenska Skeppshypotek, Svensk Sjöfart, Stena and Wallenius Marine. Over 18 months, participants rotate between the organisations and gain practical experience in insurance, financing, legal work, and day-to-day shipping operations.

How to apply:
The trainee programme is offered periodically. When the next programme opens, you will find updated information here.
